Default Possessed Transfer Case or .....

I have a 2005 Dakota Quad Cab V8, 4x4, automatic. It shifts in and out of 4 low without touching anything (while in park and 2 wheel drive. The lights on the dash jump around from 4 lock to 4 low to svc 4wd.

I start the truck and it starts shifting and then shift to 4 low and stays there. The transfer case switch does nothing.

Help,

First, Id take a look through the service manual, and see what it says.

Second thing that i can think of is have you been off-roading lately, or driven over something that could've messed up the transfer case shift motor? check under your truck, if ya haven't.

try putting it in 4low and see if it switches to 2hi

is the t-case actually in 4low or just the indicator gauges lit?

does it do it all the time or only sporadically?

id hate to have it drop into 4low @ highway speeds

Default Same Problem

I'm having the same issue with my 2005 Dakota--I removed the 25 AMP fuse so it wouldn't go into 4WD while driving. I plan on changing the selector switch and transfer case shift motor--we'll see how it goes. There's many of threads on this same issue with the Durango, but I haven't seen any on the Dakota.

T-case shift motor probably. Once it is in 2wd pull the fuse or preferably the plug. Look through DF this is a really common problem on the NV233. Sorry if I'm rite hope I'm wrong.
