Default Tail lights are intermittent

Hey everyone,

I am having some sort of problem with my tail lights on my 08 dakota SXT. Once in a while, one of them does not work. I then just pull off the cover and move the bulb housing area and they come back. Took it to the dealer and of course it was working at the time. They had mentioned that it might be the computer. Is this really the cause? It only happens once in a while and changes from drivers to passenger side. Please help

Pull the bulbs out and check the pins that make contact with the socket. On my Journey, it must have got hot and the pin actually melted a little ways into the plastic and made intermittent contact. I was able to dig the pin out and bend it a little so it would start making contact again. Also take a small file or something and clean the socket contacts. Then put some dialectric grease on it before putting the bulb back in. One suggestion anyway.

Thanks. I forgot to mention I also did put a new bulb in the first time it was happening but it never changed a thing. I will have to take it apart again today. Its raining right now so I will have to wait. I will keep everyone up to date. Any other suggestions?

Record it with your phone the next time it happens, then show it to the folks at the dealership

Hey folks, I found out what the issue was with the lights. It appears one of the wires inside the harness has a break in it. When its touched to the metal it stops working, if it bends a certain way it comes on, so now I know. I can show this to the dealer. I suppose they will have to rewire both lights. yaay for warranty.
