Default Full Synthetic Oil

Hey All,

Sorry if that had been already asked....,
currently using 5w20 Castrol full synthetic oil,
what your guys's practice in changing synthetic oil ?
how many kms can I get before I do a safe oil change ??
I heard I can run it up to 8000 kms , is that correct ??

Another question is the oil filter it says its good for upto 16000 kms ...,
can I use the same oil filter for x2 - 8000 kms oil changes ??

what are your recommendations.

thanks for the help

cheers,

Drew

I typically go 5,000 miles (about 8K km) on mine using Mobil 1 5W-30 and either a PureOne or Mopar filter.

The filter you have sounds like an extended performance filter, which is more for using longer oil change intervals. Can't really testify on those. I just change the filter every time, its worth the money knowing I have a clean filter.

Went to advance auto yesterday and got their special..Valvoline full synthetic plus a Bosch Distance Plus filter..will run it 6k miles. Just ran that same oil but changed it at about 5200 because I didn't trust my Fram Tough Guard to protect that long. Castrol is my preferred brand but if Valvoline is on sale then the hell with it!

Same here, I run Valvoline SynPower and usually pick up the 5 Qt. deal with the free filter as long as it's not a sh*t filter, then I pick up the other two quarts I need for the Hemi or 1 quart if it's for the 4.7 in the Jeep.

I change at 6000 miles unless I'm using the truck a lot for work around the dusty farm property and I'm not doing any long runs with it in which case I'll change anywhere from 4-5,000 miles...

Funny: "Hammer's quote of the day: Two words I hate to hear are DON'T and STOP, unless of course they are used together!!!"

That can be taken more than one way, 'Don't stop!' or 'Don't! Stop!' LOL

BTW I do Full Syn 5-6k with a filter change with whats on sale. I like RP but their filters are $16!

I run the Valvoline Synpower and Fram extended mileage filter. I change every 6000 miles or 6 months.

Autozone had Valvoline on sale with a Fram Tough Guard filter + $4 for a K&N filter if so desired, Advance had Valvoline on sale with a Bosch Distance Plus filter for the same price! Yup, I went to Advance only problem is that single quart to to make it 6 qts for my 4.7 is about $9. But quality synthetic oil with a great oil filter for $42 DIY actually is a sweet deal. I will forever run synthetic unless it actually doubles in price because I save money by running it. An extra $10 goes for 3000 miles..winning!
