Default 05 Dakota SLT 3.7L 4X4 Transmission fail.

Just had my truck checked out by a transmission shop after it getting stuck in 2nd gear for the last week. The code retrieved from the check engine light was P0846. After about 5 minutes the mechanic comes back with " it has to be rebuilt, $1800-2200, sorry" My truck only has 77k miles. I don't know much about transmissions, but is this a fair assessment/ price? Also, is there a cheaper alternative to rebuilding? Or a place to buy a new transmission? Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm absolutely shocked at this point with his diagnosis.

Thanks a ton,

Tyler

Welcome to the forum. First off I would take it somewhere and get another opinion. If the trans really is toast, you should be able to get a used on from a junk yard or off ebay for much cheaper than that. P0846 is a pressure switch code. There was a TSB for this from Dodge. Read this. http://engine-codes.com/p0846_dodge.html Looks like it is a known wiring/connector corrosion issue, but a PIA to repair.
