Engine hiccup and high RPM
Hey guys, new to the forum.
Recently, my 2005 Dodge Dakota has been acting very strange. When driving places it will randomly kind of hiccup, almost as if u took it out of gear and threw it into a lower gear. The higher the spped, the more pronouned "thud" or "bang" you will feel.
After the hiccup, the truck will continue on driving but up to a solid 3000 RPMs at 70MPH. Following that when you stop at a stop sign and you go to accelerate it revs and then eventually into gear. At the stop light you can take your foot off the gas pedal and it wont go anywhere until a high enough RPM - almost feels like Im ride a clutch in a manual tranny. The check engine light will then come on.
Furthermore, when I get to about 1/4 tank of gas I will fill it up and then the check engine light will go away mysteriously. Then a few days later it will randomly do it all over again.
Any ideas what the situation is? Thanks

Sounds like my truck. I'm pulling a the P1740code. Which is a problem with the TCC or O/D Solenoid. The ECU is putting your truck into "limp mode" to protect the transmission. I would first check the fluid, then move to the bigger things. It's a bit tricky to track down what is wrong when this error code is pulled because it could be a number of things wrong within the transmission. I know both a new solenoid pack and Torque Converter cost about $300 a piece.
Howdy, y'all!
My 2005 Dakota (3.7L automatic) has similar symptoms as Ryan Lilly's. PLEASE HELP! The hiccups and the high RPM's and Check Engine light being on. I've checked all fluid levels according to the owner's manual and also a repair guide book the guy at O'Reilly's let me look at. Also, my mileage is down to about 13-14 mpg @ $4.29/gal of 87 octane fuel (I'm often stuck in the Los Angeles "rush hour" traffic conditions) What else could go wrong with my truck?
