I'll move this to the 3rd generation Dakota sub-forum.

Yes, on mine the writing has faded so I dont know if it said tow/haul or OD on/off, either way, when I press it, the O/D off light comes on in the cluster. Welcome to the forum by the way!

Mine said Tow/Haul, or at least I'm assuming as a Tow/Haul light comes on on the dash when I hit it.

If you have a tow package and push the button the trany will shift to a lower gear. At speed around 50 the rpms will increase if it is fuctional.

IIRC, if you do not have the tow package, that button is the overdrive on/off.

And Welcome to DF.

Thanks,

Jude,

Click on the link below which takes you to the owners manual website. Select the year of the vehicle and Dakota and after it opens go to page 206. It describes the Tow/Haul and Overdrive functionality in length.

Ummm, my truck did not come with a tow package, and my button is tow/haul.

All the button really does is change the shift sequence. The overdrive will eventually come on, but it usually waits until you are up to cruising speed for a while.
