Default I hate key fobs

so about 6 months ago or so, both my key fobs stopped working, I took one apart and found that the metal piece holding the battery in place had come loose. pushed it back in position and glued it in place. bingo no problems, same with the other fob.

now....... they both stopped working again, but the same fix won't work. I can dismantle my fob, pinch all the pieces together while hitting the unlock button and occasionaly get it to work, but most of the time I have to unlock it manually with the key which sets off the alarm until you put they key in the ignition and turn it.

anyone had this problem and knows of a fix I can do? the only dodge repair shop anywhere near me (germany) says he can fix it for around 100 euro (125-150 dollars) per key. thats a little more cabbage than I would like to spend. I don't mind getting new keys as long as it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg, I think that guy is just jacking up the price because he is the only dodge repair shop within 200 miles. (can't blame him really)

I was reading another thread about a guy trying to reprogram a fob, but he had a working fob so that option would be more difficult for me.

any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could order the keys off ebay and have a dealership program them. I was quoted $250 per key at the local dealership to have them replaced.

I went to a local locksmith that has the equipment to program the keys and he cut and programmed one for about $125 or so.

You can program the new key yourself as long as you have 2 keys that are already programmed. The fob does not need to work to do this, the battery is for the remote door locks only and has no effect on the programmed chip. Go on eBay and find keys, just make sure the key you're buying has the same #'s as the back of your current keys. Any key maker can cut the keys, then you just need 2 keys that are already programmed to program the new key. It's in the owners manual how to do it. Some of the sellers will send you programming instructions with the new key. Search thoroughly, there are good prices, the most importent thing is matching part #'s and FCC #'s.

When I bought my Dak one of the fobs didn't work, one did. Since then the working one has stopped. I just use the thing like a normal old fashioned key. Never had a problem.

lol yea, I changed the batteries, same problem. I wouldn't mind using it the old fashioned way and just key unlock it, but it sets off the alarm every time. I have to dig out my owners manual to see what it says about programming a new key. It's not in the truck as I had to remove everything when I shipped it overseas. I think it's somewhere in the shed.... time to go digging. I'll see what I can do, and I'll eventually post what I did to get it all finished.

I can key unlock mine and it doesn't set of the alarm. Not sure why it doesn't. Just don't push the lock door button on the inside. If you ask me those things are a bigger pain in the rear than they are worth.

one of my fobs died soon after i got the truck.

when I popped off the back to replace the battery & accidently knocked the metal piece loose that holds the battery.

i had to solder it back in place (steady does it,lol) & had to repeat the process with the second one that broke loose on its own.

i hate that alarm too, learned about that feature the hard way when i stopped on the way home from buying the truck.
I unlocked the door with the key instead of the remote part......funny now,but i was ticked then, lol.

From reading other Chrysler forums, Chrysler has several different systems. A plain key. A sentry key. A remote key w/o sentry. A remote key with sentry. If you have the remote key with sentry (GXXP Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System) and (GXRP Keyless Entry), the alarm will go off when key is used to open the door. To de-activate the alarm put the key in ignition. Also, if you have (2) keys that will crank the vehicle whether the FOB's work or not, you can program additional keys.
