Default Another eFan question

So I figured out what fan to get, now I need to determine what sensor to get.

There's a access hole, plug, on top of where the top radiator hose attaches to the engine. Is this where you would put the sensor? If so, what is the thread pitch, so I order the right one?

Also, where do you connect the power? I plan on it being an automatic e-Fan, as my wife and son drive my truck as well and seem to only notice chimes, not ID10T lights and gauges, including the fuel one....

correct, and it is a 3/8" probe that you need. Use teflon tape!

3/8" NPT port for the sensor. What power are you talking about connecting? The fan will get it's power from whatever controller you use. The controller will be connected, probably straight to the battery, at least mine was. What fan did you decide on and what controller are you using? The controller should have a wiring diagram.

Are you saying the threads are going to be the same?

The fan that has been suggested to me, for air flow is this one:

http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.as...&item=30102120

Now, the sensor, 185 or 195? Considering where I live, I think the lower temp would be okay. warm the truck up faster, or cool it off faster when it gets too warm, 90+ during the summer. what is the stock thermostat now?

There's other items needed, like harness and such, but that seems like it.

I've been trying not to connect things directly to the battery. Seems to cause more issues than solve them.

That link is for the fan. You bought a Spal fan? Most of us use HHR fans with Spal controllers. What controller did you go with? Your stock thermostat is 195.

So where does one go for an HHR fan?

I haven't bought anything yet. Still getting some details nailed down.

Not to be a jerk but you should do some searching on Efan installs and results. If you do a lot of towing HHR fans might not be the solution your looking for as they tend to not keep up in hotter climates. That spal fan would require a shroud to be make and I don't think would have much of a chance of cooling the truck.

You need to figure out what fan controller you want to run, with an HHR you could run a Spal or several others as it doesn't require more then 30 amps to run. When you get into the higher CFM fans such as Mark VIII fans (What I'm running) you get into a lot of custom controller work because they draw an insane amount of power to start.

As for the temp sensor you'd want to run a sensor that would turn the fan off at 195 the lowest. If it's lower like 185 the fan will never turn off, ever. I run a 180 stat with the Mark VIII and if it's above 90 the fan rarely turns off.

I'm not trying to scare you off of going Efan but do some serious searching on it. Blown187 had a large thread on it as have several other people.

Well, feedback, as long as its constructive, not destructive, is always good.

I don't do a lot of towing, maybe once every couple months or so. I know the mechanical fan is a joke, so much that Dodge has gone all eFan on their trucks now.

I knew there would be some customization involved. I wonder if my current shroud would work?

I did kind a couple HHR fans on eBay, a couple styles, a single fan and a dual fan. I'm guessing having measurements helps...

No, the hhr fan you are looking for is from a chevy hhr. Not the generic "hhr" style fans...use the search feature and do some research before buying anything.
