Default ac problem

so this has been going on for a while but i kinda just left it alone. is anyone elses dakota ac air like wierdly imbalanced? what i mean is that whenever i put my ac to the option all the way left, which is supposed to split the air 50/50 top and bottom, it doesn't really do it. It feels like 10/90 all the air coming thru the bottom and the top part barely blows air at all. no matter how high i put the air, the split is always more powerful with the bottom. is maybe a wire bad in the top part of the ac? or do i need to clean the filter? im not really sure how ac systems work.

heres a pic to show which option i mean

Not sure either. Could be the air ports toward the bottom are more restrictive and therefore more air seems goes out (or the uppers are less restrictive). I know we borrowed a GMC that the gate that controls the flow between the upper and lower made a ticking noise we set it just blowing to the "face" part. That flap that was supposed to close wasn't closing properly so maybe in your case it's opening further than it should?

There is no filter.

Set it to "bottom only". Does any leak out of the top? Then set it to "top only". Does any leak out of the bottom? If both of these are "no", that would tell me the blend door mechanism is still good. And if so, trying to chase down this problem may not be worth the time and effort in taking apart half the dash for something that may not even be easily diagnosed and fixed, know what I mean?
