Traction Control
No, its not "hard wired" if it has it. It'll be some sort of computer controlled thing. Even the "traction control off" buttons in newer trucks now-a-days only turn it partially off, not completely.
Right there with ya, gotta be pretty careful turnin not to hit the gas too hard, sometimes even at a stop light on rainy days I'll hit the gas and just spin
A few more details would probably be helpful. First thing, I can't believe no one called this out...it's got a freaking turbo?! :/
Anyway, is the truck 2 or 4WD? I don't know of any 3rd Gen Dakotas that have traction control, other than the AWD option on some 4WDs. Mine has that (and I hate it), but on wet roads I can still occasionally break the rears loose if I leave hard turning from a dead stop. That's only with 40PSI and worn treads though.
So yea, I doubt yours has TC, other than if it was retrofitted by whoever added the turbo. If it actually has one (Dakotas don't come with them).

I put the rear mount turbo in it. Even before the turbo and before the lift whenever i tried to say power brake or do a burn out, the truck bogs down the rpm's lower and the truck doesnt move. I have never been able to spin the tires from a stand still unless in inclimate weather or in sand. Not sure why. maybe it's just my truck. its a 4by auto w a 4.7l and a garrett bb 60 trim t3/t4. Since I posted this i have removed the lift and actually lowered the truck 3/5" and put street tires on it. still no burn out
