Default 2008 Double Din questions

I'm thinking about getting a double din stereo for my 2008 Dakota and I have read that you need to trim the bezel for it to fit. But then after some more reading I think that is for earlier models. Can someone clarify this for me? And some pics of '08's with a double din installed would be sweet if you got em.

My 05 has double din size and I had a new radio put in with no trimming. It did take a special trim panel because of the dial controls that stick out on either side. I''ll see if I have any pics.

Isn't that model a single din unit?

It is a single din, but the install kit used was for a double din. It had extra space for a storage pocket, but didn't' require any trimming to fit.

In the 2008+, no special trim panel required. They do not have the "sticking out" ***** like the earlier models. They changed the dash/radio slightly.

2005-2007 is on the left, 2008-2011 is on the right. These exact pictures are comparing the stereos in two Jeeps, but they are the same units that our Dakotas used.

Cool, that's what I was hoping for.

I want an aftermarket stereo because I can't stand how my iPod sounds going through the little aux wire, I like it loud and that little wire just doesn't cut it. And I would like the iPod to get charged by the radio as well. And I was thinking about a double din size because I have never been a fan of the little pocket under a single din when filling the dd hole, and also I'm thinking that I would like to get a backup camera one day so I would like to have a screen on the stereo that can support it.

Here is the stock radio, and hopefully I will get a new one before spring.

Okay, my Alpine has the flip out screen that is like 6". The little pocket is handy for setting the ipod and radio's remote in. As for charging the ipod, there is a special connection cable that you would need. Attachment 17441
