Default differential magnet

Hey guys so i hope this isn't a stupid question. But this is the first time changing the diffy oil on this truck. Since there is no magnetic drain plug/bolt. We instead have a magnet with a little dip at the bottom of the housing for catching the little magnetic shavings and such correct? It felt pasty to me, but i assumed it was due to wear and tear, i mean no need for paste and oil right, just oil im sure..i went ahead and removed it all, and saw that there was in fact a magnet.. i just wanted some confirmation and reassuring , heres some pics

It does feel soft to the touch, changed mine yesterday (not the first time). I wipe it a few times with paper towels to clean it. No paste needed, you are correct.
