Default Transmission Pan Replacement

Well earlier today I hit black ice on a turn and plowed into a snow/ice bank.
Brush Guard took 90% of the hit, Pushed it in alittle, But re-adjusting it will fit that. No body/Bumper Damage (I have the Flexible Textured one) Bad part is the bank punched a hole into my Transmission Pan.
I was able to back off the bank, and drove 10 feet into a near by driveway for some town houses and turned it off, once stopped I looked underneath and noticed it leaking badly.
Had my dad come over, and we towed it home behind his work van (Chev Express 3/4 Ton) Wasnt towed far, less then 1/4 kilometer. Had it Running in Neutral with me inside.

Anyways, How hard is it to replace, I dont think it looks to hard, Figure Might aswell do the Filter now to haha. I Know OEM filter or I might get issues. Im thinking the big issue for this will be getting the RUSTY bolts out.

I have a 2005, 3.7L, Auto, 2wd. Dont know what type of Transmission it is, Can anyone enlighten me

You should have the 42RLE transmission. Too bad you have the V6, I have an extra transmission pan laying around for the 45RFE I'd be willing to part with for some extra money. Good to here there was no major damage in regards to the body. If only more people had grille guards. lol

On replacing it, the hardest and messiest part is draining it, which by the sounds of it is already done. There should be 14, 8mm (I think) bolts holding it on. They should come out pretty easy.

Once inside there's one torx head bolt holding the main filter on, and canister filter towards the front.

Put it all back together, use RTV, not that useless rubber gasket that comes with a filter kit. Pan bolts torque to 14.5 ft-lbs. 4 quarts of fluid for the 2WD 42RLE.

Hopefully you get it back up and in good health soon. Best of luck to ya.

I kept finding 42RLE Pans with 13 Holes, Most seem more fitted to Jeeps. and I cant even find a pan on RockAuto

Ill try to get some pics tomorrow, And yea, There isnt much in there left to drain out haha, The truck was on a slight incline, so what was in there was angled toward the hole to.

I would check with local auto salvage yards - they'd be cheaper there and some may let you remove one yourself for even less. Transmission shops may also be able to help, they often have a number of transmissions hanging around that they use for a few parts.

It was Rare to find a yard here with 97-04 Dakotas, Let alone 05+.
Plus an used would most likely be as rusty as mine, so New is the best option. Id love a aftermarket Alum one, But I dont think any exist.
You Pick yards here are non-existent, and I dotn think they are overly allowed for safety reasons.

Sorry, my bad. Yes, it should have 13 holes. I was looking at the V8 transmission.

This here should work for you:

There are quite a few floating around on eBay. Just go compare prices.

Best of luck.

Now the real question, Buy a Aluminum one for $210+Shipping, Which I dont know yet. It holds I believe 1 - 1 1/2 Quats more oil, Still uses OEM filters, no Extensions, and Fins for Cooling, or in my case, a little more added protection haha It also has alot thicker walls.
Or by a OEM one for $40+$50 shipping. Im going to call the dealer tomorrow on a OEM and see what there price is, along with New Filters, Also need to get a New Parking Brake Handle, haha

One site I looked at want $261 Shipping alone for the Aluminum one (and it was the lowest type), Only site I could find that would do it online, so I emailed another site on there price.

Heres the Aluminum one installed on a Jeep

Called my Mechanic today, It will cost around $260cad, to have the Pan Replaced and filters Done, along with new fluid and gasket/sealant. Having it towed over tomorrow by the same company that pulled me outta the woods when I got stuck haha
Still might get the Aluminum pan in the summer, to avoid it rusting thru later on.
