I am one of the higher numbered crowd. Across the board I have been getting 15-16 mpgs averages with a high of 21.4 mpgs with a mix of traffic. This fuel we have in the winter has higher %s of butane right now thus being a dirtier burning fuel and an easier starting fuel. This is why everyone notices a drop in mileage in the winter or at least in the northern regions. Heres a good article explaining the reasonings http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-e...mmer-fuel1.htm

One of the main factors why the 3.7 and 4.7 are toast. My 07 4.7HO is avg 14.8 mpg and its killing me. Hell a friendf of mine with a Silverado 4.8 305 hp is getting avg 17.5. Now thats a full size with a real back seats and a 6.5 box. Others with the new Heimis are doing better then any 4.7. If I could get a fair price for this POS I'd lose it in a heartbeat.

If he is stating 17.5 in town, I am throwing down the B.S. flag. He may be using the "well, I had a quarter tank left on the gas gauge" measuring method, which is not anywhere near accurate. Lots of people try that.

What year is that Silverado? In my 2010, I can get 17-17.5 if I take it easy during the in-town portion of my work commute (75% city, 25% highway). However, the 2008+ 4.7Ls did get a little better MPGs than the older models.

Comparing your 6 year old truck to a brand new HEMI is like comparing a four year old computer to a brand new gaming rig, of course the new unit is going to be better and faster! The difference is yours cost a lot less, especially if you have it paid off. Even if you don't have it paid off, your payments are far less than what you'd pay for a newer Ram. The payment difference would be far more than what 2 MPG costs you in extra fuel.

I highly recommend you get your oil changed. You are far overdue.

I used a 1/4 tank in city and drove to Phoenix and back pretty much all highway and got 18.2. That was right before the oil change.
