Default So I got this rattle ( leveing kit issues)

On my truck, i have had my leveling kit on for about 5 months, and I got a rattle that is bugging the heck out of me, I have turned my truck in tight circles and get no pops from the CV's but when I go over speed bumps and rough roads, my truck nearly rattles itself apart.

does anyone know the torque spec for the top bolts of the strut mount?

My kit is like this one:

it seems as if there is a lot of metal on metal contact going on.

Anyone ever had similar issues???

I am going to take my sway bar loose tomorrow and see if that helps any or not with the rattle, or could my strut top single bolt not be tight enough? causing them to extend and then compress back down making a clunk noise?

Oh and I can stand by the truck and push it up and down hard and hear 0 noise, so it seems to only happen with a fair amount of force.

Did you replace the mounts as well? I think Bobby had the same issue and had to replace the mounts. Even though everything was tight, it still rattled because the mounts were shot.

I am gonna go with Kent, your mounts are shot. they have metal washers inside them that fail and rattle

Mine does the same thing. I hear more of a thud going over speed bumps. I believe it's my strut bushings.

I did replace my strut mounts: However I think I found the source of the problem. I put my hand on the top of the strut mount and felt for the nut. then moved the truck and felt the strut rod move up and down. So the nut on top is not nearly tight enough.

I am assuming that I didn't torque it down when I replaced the struts and put the Leveling kit in.

So I am off to buy a 18mm Socket to "customize" so I can tighten the nut without having to pull the entire strut out. I'll take some pics to explain it later.

after this we will see if this solves most my rattles.

The top nut should move up and down a little bit, its in a rubber bushing.

well I didn't think it should move as much as it was, so I bought me a 3 dollar socket and cut it in half with a cut-off wheel

Once I cut it in half, I could then fit the 8mm socket through the 18mm socket that was clamped with a vise-grip and hold the bottom nut through the leveling kit while I turned the strut shaft.

And I shall find out tommorow if my rattle (at least this one) is gone

There is a bushing there, but there is also a torque spec for that nut and when it's pulled to that tightness, there should be no slop - you shouldn't be able to feel or see any movement.

There is NO MOVMENT NOW!!! that is one less rattle I have to deal with.

I just remember this moring about these though: Looks like I found my Christmas in July or St patties day present! Boy that would have been easier than cutting a socket in half; though slightly more expensive.
