Default Problem Towing / Shifting

So I've always disliked how my truck shifts when accelerating.... between 2300 and 2800rpms the engine seems as though it cant shift. It either stays below 2300 or I have to give it a little more gas and it will over rev past 3k as if I was stomping on the gas pedal. I do notice this more when I'm towing, either a jetski or 19ft boat.
Last time I took the boat out I almost couldn't get it out of the water. The boat ramp was pretty steep but it still shouldn't have had that much of a problem. The engine was WOT and I couldn't pull the boat out of the water. The tires were firm on the ground with no slippage. I would think at least I would be able to break the tires free. This was in drive, then tried 1st and 2nd and still nothing. Eventually I had to get people to push on the back of the truck to get it started and finally got a little bit of momentum to get it moving.
To me it seems as the though the transmission is slipping. I would think if I have a heavy load that's not moving I would still be able to break the tires free....
I've been thinking about going to 4.10 instead of 3.55 but I think this truck has a bigger problem that I would be hiding. Also been thinking about replacing the whole PCM.
Anyone ever experience this or have any suggestions. I've taken it to a dealership and they said they had never heard of such issue. Said it has due to the 3.55 gears..

Year of truck? Engine? Mileage?
You say WOT, so you had the pedal on the floor and the engine revving over 4000-5000rpm?

I have a 2006 3.7, with about 80K, yes I basically had the pedal to the floor with the engine revving at about 3500-3800 rpms but wouldn't budge. Trailer is a dual axial for a 19fter but I didn't think I would have that much trouble with it

That seems odd. Dropping to first didnt even budge it? How much does the boat weigh?

I am running 3.55s and it pulls my trailer with 1-1.5 tons of soil and the in-laws 19 foot boat, even in an out of the launch with no issues

This. Even without the Tow Tune, I haven't experienced that...

No if you're above 3000 rpm and not spinning, and not moving then your converter or transmission is wore out.
I would seek a transmission shop to check them out.
I have the 4.7, but the concept is the same. The converter should be locked up. I understand going up mountains and stuff, but then you would just downshift.
The transmission can make a difference as well. I have the 5 speed auto, but still get that "late" shifting. The tuner helped that a great deal. That's just dodge transmission stuff for ya...
I don't know if they have a tuner that does transmission stuff for you or not.
I would start with a transmission shop though and have them check it out.

Oh and I pull a 3500-4000lb boat with a 1200 lb trailer out of the water no problems at all.
Even pulled it from Florida to Chicago which means i had some parts where it was through the Appalacian mountains and yes, the trucks struggle but can do it. A 3.7 should have no problem pulling a 19 out of the water.
