I put in a set of kickers. Just go to crutchfield. Literally the easiest thing finding the right size and then installation.

I don't think Dodge would spend the money to alter the space and mounting brackets on the door just to Allow for an upgraded factory sound system. As it stands our Dakotas typically come with 6 1/2 inch speakers in the doors all the way around. The only main difference with your premium sound system, I believe, is that they cut out a little hole in the pillar and added a small bracket to mount the tweeter.

In regards to mounting depth, all you have to do when you remove your speakers from your door is measure them from the mounting brackets to the back of the magnet. Since you were thinking about upgrading, an aftermarket speakers could Require a deeper mounting depth, Go ahead and also measure from the mounting brackets on the door itself towards the outside. Keep in mind, when you do this, make sure that your windows are all the way down, that way you can visually see if The window would get in the way of a larger or deeper speaker.

When I read did my sound system, I went ahead and use the Alpine 6 1/2's and overall I am pleased, But I am planning to eventually upgrade to components, as well as make sure that I utilize some kind of bass blocker.

Additionally, if you want to get the most out of the aftermarket speakers you purchase, you may want to consider using at least some kind of sound dampening material like Dynamat, As well as a foam speaker baffle that will help direct more of this sound back into the vehicle

Update, I'm thinking I'm going to order these 6 1/2" Alpines for my truck. Y'all say Alpines are good so I'm gonna give them a try. I'm gonna guess there are no clearance issues with them.

Shouldnt be any clearance issues with those if my kenwood components fit. Even if there was you could whip up some quick spacers.

When it comes to speakers, as long as your not throwing a ton of power at them all at once, you probably won't hurt anything if you mix up the positive and negative. If you have a multi-meter it can tell you the difference, but one easy way to tell if your speaker is wired backwards or not is to turn on the power to the radio and touch both wires to where they connect on the speaker. When a speaker is working you can see it vibrating, if the power is hooked up correctly, the speaker will vibrate out away from the magnet, if it is wired backwards it will vibrate inwards towards the magnet. There are a few good youtube videos that demonstrate this if you search "how to hook up car speakers"

Well, I got my speakers in and the mids and highs sound great but there is literally no bass. And I can't figure out why. Any suggestions?
