2008 Dakota Electrical Issue
Yes, once the key was allowed to roll back to ON it would still be engaged.
I tested the voltage across the battery terminals now that the new alternator was installed and noticed only 12.7 volts, but if I stuck the leads to the battery cables themselves I would get fluctuations of 13.8 down to 12.6, so I replaced the battery terminal ends, even though I had replaced them only months ago, and have now gotten a steady 13.8 across the battery terminals and all problems appear to be corrected at this time. Hopefully this continues. Thank you for all the help.

I covered my Battery terminals in Die-Electric Grease to help keep them from corroding and keep a good connection.
Even when one of my terminals came very loose (I was able to just pull up and it came off) the grease still kept a good enough circuit to start without issue.
I only found out it was loose when I tried to boost my brothers car.

I find that the paint type coatings don't last very long although they look good. Di-electric grease or even general purpose grease work well, last, and are easy to replace when they rub off.
