05 Dakota SLT armrest latch issue
2005 Dodge Dakota SLT. My arm rest I cannot put up because the latch won't hook the metal... It won't lock. I took it apart to see what the issue is. spring looks good, some of the plastic by the latch looks scratched. I cannot get it to hook the latch. Is there a replacement or fix?
rbarilla,
Have you contacted a Dodge dealer parts department? They can find the exact part that you need after reviewing your VIN# and provide you with a quote and part#. If the part is not available at a dealer I've heard of people locating arm rests and things of that nature at a salvage yard.

Is it the middle-seat armrest latch? If so, it is an easy fix, but an expensive part!
My read is that the original system had a spring that was too stiff! Use leads to the plastic actuater breaking off and then you have to use your finger or a screw driver to flip the metal latch.
Mopar offers a replacement that consists of a new latch assembly. You pop the old rivets out and rivet the new one in. I used my finger for about 6 months until I found a unit at the wreckers with a replacement latch in it. I popped the old one out and put the new on in. Been working perfectly since.
Mine was busted since I bought the truck used. The dealer was supposed to fix in the two weeks before I picked up the truck. They fell asleep and gave me a $200 cheque to make it right. That is the price of the part here in Canada (they didn't know what the problem was). I paid $2 for the part at the U-Pull yard, plus $6 for a box of rivets, assorted size.

My salvage yard only has older Dakotas. Called the dealer to get a price of the latch assembly he said he can only give prices of the part he cannot give me the part number.... He couldn't find the latch assembly. Does anyone have the part number?
I believe the 2nd gen Dakotas use the same center console.
Yeah, I think it's the same too.

Yes, some of them do. My repair came from a 2nd gen. Some older Rams have them too, but I don't know which ones, I've just seen them at the junk yard.
Oil change today if it doesn't rain all day (80% chance . . .)
