Default Error code P0404 EGR

So I was just on my way home from work, when I was in cruise control at 45mph and my CEL came on. I'm like "Oh crap".

So I get home and park in the driveway, turn it off, and get my super chip tuner out and read the code.
Comes out as

p0404
EGR POSITION SENSOR
PERFORMANCE

I read on it, and said about Exhaust Gas Recirculation systems are inherently problematic due to carbon buildup in the intake manifold, etc. This normal buildup can lodge in an EGR valve, holding it open when it should be closed. If this is the case, the engine may idle rough, or not at all. If the valve has failed and is NOT opening, then symptoms would be higher combustion temps and as a result, higher Nox emissions.

Causes Usually this code points to either carbon buildup or a bad EGR valve. However that doesn't rule out the following: Open or short in the 5 Volt reference circuit Open or short in the ground circuit Open or short in the PCM controlled voltage circuit Bad PCM (less likely)

So I did clear it, but I would like to get this fixed. Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a way to fix this?

My light for that codes comes and goes for the last month. One day I'll get to it but it seems like a pain to get to. If its cheap enough, I'd probably just replace it and if I can get to it try to clean the intake manifold of some of the carbon.

If I remember correctly the EGR valve is around $90 at Advanced Autoparts. Its a pita to get to if you have big hands. It's located between the firewall and intake manifold. 2 bolts, but those are a pain to get back in line to put the thing back in.

This is at auto zone for $39.99

I think I'll just replace mine to be honest. Because it's just going to get worse and worse and at least a new one would last longer
