Muffler and resonator
How easy is it to remove the rear resonator and just straight pipe that spot and to replace the stock muffler. I don't want to buy an entire cat-back exhaust kit and I am horrible at welding. I was trying to do this by just buying a Flowmaster 40 and some exhaust pipe. If I didn't remove the resonator would it just be a direct swap into the factory muffler location?
I did mine in my basement, it's as easy as you want it to be. Use a hand hacksaw and be there all day or take an electric sawzall and be done in a matter of minutes. Do yourself a favor and remove both resonators or you won't like the sound. Piece up some straight pipes from autozone or somewhere like than and clamp it in place. That should last awhile. As far as being a direct swap, nope. If you have looked at the factory muffler, it is frickin huge, so unless you get a flowmaster the same length (doubtful) you will have to get some straight pieces to make up for the shorter length of the fm.
Quick and easy, cut the whole system out from right in front of the front resonator, piece together an exhaust using the fm and make it exit right in front of the passenger side rear tire, or just dump it over the axle.

Thanks bud. I actually knew how to remove the rear res, is the front the same? Just put a new pipe in there too? My main question question is how easy is it to throw in a new muffler. I'm not worried about the pipe as much as I am about the mount. How can I attach the new muffler to the stock hanging spot?

Just replacing the muffler is simple as getting the right adapters to get the pipes to fit together. Some 05's have 2 resonators (one in front of the muffler, one past the rear axle), others only have one (past the rear axle).
