Default TIP: always double check ujoints before install to save headache

I bought a Precision 369 ujoint for my front driveshaft. I tried installing it, but it didn't wanna seat all the way. Not sure what was going on. So I tried it in different configurations and it wouldn't seat all the way to put the clip on it. It was like less than 1mm from seating. I tried it multiple times, and no, the needle bearings never once got in the bottom of The cap. I took my caliper to it With the caps on, and one side was .05 inches longer than the other side. And the shorter side was the side that never had a problem. I took it back to oreillys and exchanged it for a new one. I then measured it and the two sides from end to end and it was the same. That one installed easily. IF I measured it in the first place, I would've known. So always double check!

Wow, .050" is WAY off. No wonder it wouldn't fit. Personally, I try to use only Spicer u-joints, but I have used Precision before with no problems. I'll be sure to double-check them from now on. Thanks for the tip.

Like the caps were fit perfect in the whole, but they wouldn't sink down enough to put the clips on. SO yeah, I'm glad I figured it out. You don't know how frustrated I was!

What's a caliper . . . .LOL

I would never have figured that out! I would just assume I was doing something wrong and probably get out the BFH and make it fit.
