Default question;

Hello Ya'll, Well after having the mechanic check my 06 4x4 Dakota, from sensors to brakes and rotors the only thing he did was worked on rotors.The truck ran great but ,my rear wheels started to lock again, but this time I hear an electric sound coming from the bottom of the truck. I have no idea what or where that sound comes from,rather the truck is on or when I use the keyless remote to unlock the door,that electric sound comes on.Any ideas?? Thanks !!

You'll need to be more descriptive on this sound. When does it start/stop? Location, as best you can place it?

A better sound description is also needed. Electricity itself, has no sound. The application of electricity in some cases will give you a hum, a whine, a crackling from an arc, etc.

What kind of electric sound? If it happens when you use the remote, try to pinpoint the sound by walking around the truck and pressing the remote..

What do you mean the "rear wheels are starting to lock again"? You mean while driving the rear wheels just lock up on you?

Need more detail.

Morning Keaton; Yes while I'm park and ready to move I can hear it braking . also notice a sound coming underneath the truck driver side, this sound that makes its like a copy machine when it makes a copy.I have walk around the truck to pin point the area of the sound, and the closest is around the transfer case.

Morning Alfons; The better sound I can come up with will be like a copier machine when it releases the paper.It happens when I'm in park or on drive with my brakes on and right after I use my keyless remote to unlock the doors the sound comes on.The problem I had before was my rear right wheel was locking, took it a mechanic,he worked on the brakes checked sensors and rotors, the truck ran great after two weeks now they are locking again.My SVC lights comes on and 4x4lo also comes on. The sound appears to come from the driver side underneath the truck Its hard to pin point the area because I'll be on the truck, but maybe just maybe the transfer case area..

your transfer case switch is going to crap out, crawl under truck and see if the wiring harness is dragging on the frt driveshaft, if so. it has to be replaced, that little solenoid is moving in and out, mine went, tried throwing the truck into 4lo at 70 mph one day on the highway

This!

That makes perfect sense because of the sound you described...

Here's another option for you to consider - it could be your door locks. I haven't opened up any 3rd Gen Dakota doors that have electric door openers, but there are quite a few vehicles that use a small electric motor & a little gear box in the door for the lock/unlock process. You said the sound would start when you pressed the remote, so, use a mechanics stethoscope (or piece of hose) to narrow down the location of the sound - put your stethoscope to each door and activate the remote lock/unlock & see if you get that sound (you might be able to get a better feel for it by just putting your ear to the door around the lock area).

+1 on this. Happened to me as soon as I bought mine. One way to check is to disconnect the transfer case shift motor. There is a hard as heck plug to reach on-top of the motor itself. Make sure the truck is in 2wd, disconnect the battery, unplug the transfer case shift motor (it has a slider you might have to pry up), reconnect the battery. Drive for a few days and if the problem disappears, start searching online for a rebuilt shift motor.
