Default RPM is to high

Hi guys I have a 2005 Dakota 3.7 2wd. The truck runs great but some times if I am stoping the RPM s will stay around 1200. And when it is working the way it is suppose to it will drop to about 800. What would make this happen? I just got the truck two mouths ago so I don't know every thing that has been worked on. No check engine light also.

First thing I would do is remove and clean the throttle body and IAC. One or the other gets stuck from carbon buildup over time. Easy to do and is usually the culprit of the funky idle syndrome. Make sure you disconnect the battery first. Since you just go the truck, have you done basic tune up stuff if you don't know the history? (plugs, air filter, oil change, etc)

Check for a vacuum leak too if jkeaton's advice doesnt change anything.

Ok thanks guys. I have changed all the oils and air filter. Need to change end links as rubber boots are gone. I also have the spark plugs just haven't replaced yet.
