replacing an o2 sensor on an 07 3.7L
I need help, I am trying to replace my right downstream sensor and I can't figure out how to remove it due to very limited room. Has anyone done this before and can tell me what's the best way to do this. Any help and/or advice is much appreciated. Thank you
I had to replace both up stream and down, I had it done at a local shop. They said it was a real bugger due to the clearance on top of the pipe. sensors were $84.00 and $86.00 each and labor was $90.00........just got it back yesterday...oh yes mine is an 08, 4.7.........
I don't know how much clearance you have, but if it's clearance to accommodate the height of the sensor socket with the ratchet on top of the socket, you can get a stubby socket where the ratchet attaches offset to the socket - this gives you a lot of extra room get your tools in place.
Here's a link to an example of what these various sockets look like. You also see some with a hex top, in tight spaces, these can be used with a wrench or with a crows foot socket attached to a breaker bar. I've had pretty good luck with the stubby offset sockets - sometimes you need some heat to loosen an old O2 sensor.
That can also work, a piece of pipe on the end will give a lot of extra leverage. You can also get the flex-end "box wrench" style sockets that work well in tight situations and you can stick those onto a breaker bar.
This. Except that I'm pretty sure they're 7/8" or 22mm.
