how long has this problem been going on for? could it be just bad gas, or even a head gasket going

Welcome to DF. How many miles on the truck? How long has this been going on?

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plugs or wires
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Stuck/blocked/leaking EGR valve / passages
  • Faulty camshaft position sensor
  • Defective computer

When did this start happening? Not to be there bearer of bad news, but wasn't there some valve issues with the 3.7 that resulted in this? Try to get a compression test done. You can do it yourself too, just rent or buy a gauge. This will rule out the valves.

Did you check for any diagnostic codes? Not all codes translate to having a CEL on. An intermittent CEL should leave something behind.

I just bought an 2008 V6 3.7 2 months ago, put 3,000 miles on it and flipped a po300 two weeks ago. reset it and thru it again 5 days later. first put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in, that didn't work, so we replaced the coil and spark plugs on cylinder #6. I think this is an on going issue..looked at carfax and the service records for the year are lengthy. had a 02 Dakota, v8 4.7 and never had a problem...what gives with this engine?

well, crap...

I logged in to see if I could find anything about the coil packs, and which to get, and from where, but this thread made me dig a bit deeper, found this:

http://www.brakeandfrontend.com/Arti...e_at_idle.aspx

I'm going to move my #6 coil (where my misfire is) somewhere else and then watch it...but.....damn...

Not to drag a thread from the dead, but my truck just started to have this issue.

The shop had it yesterday and today, and couldnt find anything right away.
Replaced bad O2, Checked Ignition, Fuel, EGR, Cat, nothin obvious has stuck out to them.
Codes:
P0300
P0137
P0158

He did say there is a TSB out for a very similar issue, But mine seemed to come on more quickly

Battery has to work harder in cold weather. If it, your starter, or connections have any problems you can have a pretty severe voltage drop. -----bout all that comes to mind for me.
