Default 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT

So I got a question hopefully someone can answer, I have a 2005 dodge dakota slt and in the dash it has 4wd lights but I don't have any controls for it does this mean I have can possibly just get a control wired in? Or is that just because they have Dakotas with 4wd and everything in them is the same?

Welcome to DF. Yes, they have 4x4 Dakotas.

Just getting the controls for 4x4 wired in won't magically give you 4 wheel drive. You need a few other things, like a transfer case, drive shaft, cv axles, front differential, different hubs, etc. I'm sure it can be done, but it wont be cheap or easy. Moving this to the correct section.

Enjoy the truck with 2wd, as stated above, it's too much work to convert it to 4wd.

Welcome aboard.

Agree with the rest. Enjoy your 4x2 or trade it in for a 4x4. Unless you a very mechanically inclined and experienced, converting your 4x2 to a 4x4 will be more expensive than what you'd pay for trading it in for a 4x4.
