My 05' Dakota nightmare!!
There is a TSB out for this but Dodge won't tell you. You have to find it out for yourself. I ran across it on the net and took my truck back to my dealer. He fixed it for nothing and had my truck done 1 1/2 hours BEOFRE he promised it. The dealer is Buchanan and Young in Burnsville, NC. They are GREAT to deal with and act like they want your business.
I have a 2006 Quad Cab with the 17" Chrome Clad wheels, and it rides great, brakes work very good, no vibration at all and ive had it up to 90. Of course it only has 1050 miles on it but...thought i would contribute...
I found myself compelled to comment on your vibration problem. I too own a new 05 4wd (in my case) CC Dakota. I too experienced a vibration issue with the vehicle. After reading your posts I took mine to my dealership over the Christmas holiday. They told me that there was a TSB and ordered the necessary items. They turned the front rotors, replaced the needed hardware in the back and test drove the vehicle. They immediately called me and informed me the vibration was still there. They had an idea and asked my permission to perform a test. They asked if they could perform a "roadforce balance" test on my tires and the warranty usually would NOT cover this. Further they found TWO bad tires causing this problem. After a few calls directly to D.C. I found that the factory will not cover tire issues of this nature. They and the dealership STRONGLY URGED me to take the issue up with Goodyear as this was their problem. We collectively decided to replace one tire and use the spare as the other. I was VERY pleased at what the dealership did and suggested considering the circumstances. They really could not do much about the tires other than take it in the shorts for the monetary loss. They covered ALL of the labor and road force balaned all four tires at their expense. I had but to purchase one tire at a discounted price. I am VERY pleased at what they tried to do to help me. I ,however will NEVER use Goodyear tires again. I will use Michelin tires just like the ones I put on my 01 4wd CC truck. I hope that this is helpful.
I have a 05 I just bought. It had 17 miles on the OD. Im having a vibration prob. as well. My dealer did a road force test and found 3 of the 4 tires to be out of round. The tires are goodyear or should I say badyear tires. If they work out ok Ill be happy but I would never buy them. Just a little input.
I have had the same problem with my 2005 Dakota CC 4X4 SLT. The TSB # for this problem is: 05-004-05A. It supposedly takes care of problem. I am pursueing my resolve as I speak. I too questioned the tires. My first visit, I had 2 tires and a rim replaced. That didn't fix the problem. My second visit, the other two tires replaced. My third visit, they threw their hands up in the air and told me they had no idea what the problem was. I called DC and was told that I could take it to a different dealer, which I did. They acknowledged there was shaking but was advised by a technician at Corporate HQ's that the shaking was charectoristic of the Dakota. I said "BS"! After some research, I found the enhanced TSB and am hoping it will solve the problem however, i've got a feeling that the junk Goodyear tires are gonna have to go also.
I don't reallt know about the rest, besides it sounds like you might have one of those lazy service departments, but for the runaway truck I have a theory. If they said they had to change rear axle and drums, then they had to disconnect the brakes. It is possible that they forgot to bleed and pump them before returning it to you. I have seen this before. You could have straight been out of good old dot 3 fluid. As for not being able to find the problem, they probably did and fixed it stating there is no problem, so as not to look stupid and careless because of there mistake. Cause if that is the case, you're probably real close to a law suit for there lack of safety. I'm not saying this to knock on Dodge. I'm mopar all the way, but that doesn't mean that they don't have some lousy service areas. All companies do. I would recommend, even though it is probably quite a further drive from where you live, but take it to another DODGE dealership and get a second opinion. Don't tell them what other dealer said and they should be able to pull up vehicle records thereselves. As new a Dak, its still under warranty, it doesn't matter which dealer service you take it to. Good luck, whatever the outcome. Sorry for your headaches.

Has EVERYONE had this vibration issue? Is it something I will defintely recognize or do I need to pay attention to notice it?
