Havent run into any breaking vibrations on my 06, actually there suprisingly smooth.

Situations like these is what the NHSTA is for. Recalls happen on so many cars now a days it doesnt mean much. Just a pain in the **** waiting for the recalls to come trhough or for the Manf. to find the flaw. However in times like these, please be kind to the dealer. Trust me they want your car fixed as much as you do, its a pain in the *** to deal with a customer when theres nothing you can do for his car untill the MANF gets its act in gear.

ptschett - thanks for the reply! Some great info, and I agree with your point on the NHSTA article. I've always been a big advocate of doing as much research as necessary so I can sound somewhat educated on the issue when I do go to the dealer.

Say, wehere did you get the info for the wheels? Thanks for sending that on!!!

I do love this truck and having added $1100 in extras, I don't want to ditch it! I drove it into work today, but couldn't go over 60mph. Regular braking provided no signs of shaking. Hopefully traffic is lighter so I can try again this afternoon @ 75mph or so.

I think we can all recognize quality parts in any product, and with newer sophisticated vehicles (especially new models) come new problems. Just seems like so much of what we buy now a days from computers to cars are becoming more and more disposable..

Glad to hear your vehicle is running smoothly!

Hey Saroni, the braking problems I have described where not at high speed, 42mph down to around 20mph, not always there, comes and goes. Seems when the truck is on the road a while and heats up it starts. Just called from dealer today and pick up my truck tomorrow. they installed a set of upgraded aluminum cast wheels and tell me the problem has been resolved. I don't know what these wheels cost but more than the stock steel ones I had for sure. I will say Dodge has gone the limit trying to resolve this problem. I am hoping it is fixed once and for all, if not then it's attorney time as the lemon law requirments have been exceeded. I loved this little truck when I got it and I am hoping I can rebuild my confidence, had the steering column checked while it was in as well. Hope tomorrow is a good ride........

I used the brochures. The descriptions match the '05 brochure but the pictures match the '06.

I can't believe it! Picked up our truck this morning, got there and a brand new set of wheels like the B picture above are on the truck,,,,,and the vibration IS GONE!!! Service Mgr and Dodge fact rep said it was defective steel wheels not mating up to the mounting surface of the wheel backing properly and causing play...don't know....but drove 85 miles home from the dealer and it brakes smooth as silk. I do not think Dodge would put on new aluminum wheels and nuts and center pieces if they did not believe it would solve the problem. I am happy again after four months of fighting this thing, I almost rolled out with a new 06 1500 4x4 this morning as they have huge rebates on them, but the mileage figures suck! Figured i would give our little Dakota one more chance, if this doesnt work then our atty assures us court will. I have babied this thing since I got it, Mobile one 5/30 every 3000 miles and it runs sweet. So there is hope for you other guys, hope you have as good a dealer as we do, if it makes 225,000 miles like our Nissan truck I'll stick with Dodge for sure. Good Luck

Well, I've my truck back for a week or so and it is better. The service department from my dealer began to do the TSB work and then realized (after they tore it apart) that the TSB only related to 8 1/4 rear ends. Mine is a 9 1/4. They thru it back together and told me to come and pick it up. I said well, I'll come and get it when you decide what you are going to do to resolve the issue and then fix it. They came to the conclusion that they (supposedly) were not balancing the tires correctly and took it to a local Goodyear store. That seemed to the trick but, they left air in my brake lines! [:@] SO, back to the dealer it goes!!

Well, I got it back. They told me that wheels had to be balanced at a local Goodyear. I drive it down the road and feels pretty good. Then after a couple of days I notice my brakes feel really spongy and figured they must have gotten air in the lines. So, back to the dealer it goes. Upon inspection (by them), they realized that they forgot to adjust the rear brakes back up. SO they get the rear brakes adjusted and after a couple days, the shaking is back, ECSPECIALLY when braking! I am just about at my wits end!!!

Gearhead - that's great to hear! I too love this truck and am hoping Dodge can come up with a solid solution for this problem.

I deomonstrated the issue to my wife this weekend. I already have the aluminum wheels, which kind of stumped me as most with this problem have steel. She noticed the problem comes and goes, and is usually at highway speeds.

As I mentioned in a previous post, her father (my father-in-law) works at the DaimlerChrysler PG in MI. I sent him the full TSB and he is inquiring within. Once I find anything out, I'll share what info I can. In our last converstaion we learned this poses no safety issues and was discovered shortly after the Dakotas were rolled into production.

At this time, I'm refraining from taking ours to the dealership until I can learn more.

I don't intend to sit idly by. I really hope they can solve the issue because I truly like the truck. However, squeezing the lemon is on my mind!!

Hey Airborne82 - not my stlle either (sit and wait), but luckily we have another vehicle to use until I see some sort of final report around the issue / cause. My take is they new this when they released the vehicle, since it doesn't seem to be an issue with the '06 models. Wondering what the real deal is here. I have the symptoms, but a lot of mismatch in all the postings. Good luck to you! I'll post what I do / find out as time goes on.

Airborne, if you have steel wheels that's a big part, if you have the cast wheels and it is an 05 then it needs the new 06 brakeshoes in the rear. I have 400 miles on mine since the last trip in and it seems fine now, this after 6 visits and four months of this brake shake thing. Dodge indeed knows about it, said the shoes in 05 are to rigid and do not make contact with the surface of the drum when pressure is applied, the 06 are more flexible and conform to the shape of the drum. I know how you feel, my neighbors think I change cars daily, I've had 4 rental loaners, for as long as a week each, but to my dealers credit Kendall here in Cottage Grove, they never gave up on it and called in the tech this last time and now unless something else goes bad it's good. I have 8200 miles on it now and 1200 of them are going back and forth as my dealer is 85 miles away. I still lost out on the gas though filling up rentals and my own. The last time they filled mine but would not make good on gas. I know it's not their problem that I live far away..hope this may help.
