Blown Engine :(
One custom motor mount, one custom oil pan, a cable driven throttle mount, low profile headers, after market cats, some misc wire splices and sensors, a custom tune and viola 100 xtra ponies and ft lbs. you must start with a v8 truck, the 4.7 PCM will run the 5.7. Check frenicx's hemi swap one year plan. It will be more work, but well worth it. I will be doing it whether my engine goes or not. Wanna buy mine? 5.7s are not much more.
Your fleet mechanic may not be up for a Hemi swap though, the 4.7 would be a lot less work for him, and probably more money and possible issues for you. I'm sure there are issues that are simple to remedy if you're mechanically able, but if you're running to a mechanic time after time, it'll cost you serious $$.

You're right though - I probably really don't "need" it.
It is my opinion, that since the 5.7 produces 30%+ more power in a significantly heavier truck and achieves similar gas mileage, it is more efficient. Nobody "needs" it. Semi trucks do their job with a much lower power to wieght ratio. The non-oem path is beset with challenges, but as far as swapping in larger engines, this case looks relatively easy; emphasis on relatively.
Ya, If i were in your shoes, id just go with a re-manufactured motor. BUT, IF i were younger, dumber, not fixin to have a kiddo and had a butt ton of cash: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...ave-built.html
www.jasperengines.com, that's all I got to say, call them and see what they can do for you, plus with your old core, you will save some money from a direct replacement
