Default Flat Tire Light

My flat tire light went on back in winter, I filled up my pressure per the door jam, filled it up again during spring, still on. I disconnected the battery for a hour or so, nope. My front right brake is cracked I believe, due to the squealing, so can can that be a potential cause?

Keep driving the truck for a while, the light may go out eventually. The brakes will not cause a TPMS light to come on. Not sure if the spare tire has a sensor in it, but check the pressure in it. Or maybe one of the tire sensors simply went bad.

Mine has been on all winter - scares the hell out of my wife! My winter rims do not have sensors, so I actually have to CHECK the pressures every couple of weeks.

What exactly is the sensor? I got new tires, but that was months before.

Each tire has a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensor in it, when a tire goes below 25% of the recommended pressure, it sends a fault and lights up that idiot light on your dashboard.
  • If a sensor is damaged when changing tires, that could cause the sensor to go bad.
  • Also there are TPMS rebuild kits, usually installed when new tires are mounted, so maybe that wasn't done. This can cut the lifespan of the sensor down.
  • Finally there is the battery in the sensor which sends the signal to the receiver in the system. The batteries are supposed to have a life of anywhere from 5 to 12 years, so if a battery dies, you would get a fault light once again.
I am so damn happy that I don't have TPMS in my truck, or in my car.
