Ethanol Free Gas

Ethanol Free Gas
Alright guys, I have a buddy who just told me that he gets about 4 extra miles per gallon after switching to ethanol free gas. I do know of one station out my way (Northwest of Atlanta) that sells ethanol free fuel, but only at the 90 Octane rating. I've heard lots of stories about how engines never run the same after switching from 87. So, has anyone ever tried this and would it even be worth the extra money spent on gas to save 4 miles per gallon? (Which, by the way, sounds like a crazy number to me. If I went from 16.5 to 20.5 city, I might think someone sabotaged my 4.7!)
Wanted to get some thoughts before considering something like this. Oh, and if you tell me that my friend is crazy, that won't be news to me.

I've always got about 1 mpg better using non ethanol on most of my vehicles. I've never tried it on the Dakota yet. The place here that has it is like 20 cents higher than anyone. Which basically eliminates the 1mpg so I never bother. I've been getting 19 mpg I doubt I'd go up much from that.

I get about 2 MPG better with ethanol free vs. E10. I have to use 91 octane to offset the ethanol many times because many stations put 10% in all their gas.
My wife's Hemi-powered Grand Cherokee actually does closer to 3 MPG better in town if we use non-ethanol gas.
If you have a Superchips, ethanol can contribute to engine "pinging" if you don't offset it with higher octane.
