Talking Replace the rear brake 2006 Dakota

Everything new drum brakes springs can not slide the drum over the shoes tried everything is there a way to fix it

Hope you figured it out and don't have to stay home this morning!


I would suggest that you need to back the adjusters off. See the service manual in the sticky.

I second that. With new shows, you need to back the self adjusters off enough to get the drum on, then tighten them slightly after installing the drum. Just like when you install new pads on the front, you need to seat the piston so the new pads slide over the rotor.

Been there, done that. Seems my aftermarket drums (don't recall what brand I bought) just weren't big enough. Adjusters were backed off to the point of being sloppy but, no go. Took them to a local shop and told the guy my problem and he said they were probably a universal fit and would need to be cut. He resurfaced them (removed excess runout) and they went right on.
