Default Bang for the Buck Mod...

Hello!

Got Monroe shocks installed this weekend and the truck is good. Still had the original shocks (and it's at 110,000 miles!). Said the tires were wearing bad as a result and that contributed to the bad ride. Now that it has new shocks said the ride should get better as the tires wear correctly.

So... next question is... what's next?

After searching and doing research here I came up with the following list:

Hipotek throttle body
Superchips tuner
CAI (maybe even just the Airaid MIT)
Magnaflo catback

Thing is, if I can do a mod I might only be able to do 1 from the list and the next one wouldn't be for awhile.

So if you could only do 1, which is the best bang for the buck mod from the above list (or feel free to suggest another one)? And what's the recommended order to do them in?

Primarily I'm after better throttle response, more power down where I normally drive on the street and on the highway. Nothing too crazy.

And a question about the tuner... in case someone recommends that... since it firms up the shifting, is that fine to do in my truck's 110,000 mile old tranny?

Thanks!

I would do this "CAI (maybe even just the Airaid MIT)", because you can do that for free, almost!

so basically your truck is stock? hoping its a 4.7, the easiest mode by far is a cooler stat, 180 to be exact, magnums like to run cool, and for under 10.00 its worth it, and depending on the cash flow, I would go tuner, for what your gonna spend on intake and exhaust or even throttle body unless you go fastman like me, you gonna drop a good 400.00, so tuner is my first choice for you

So where can I get the Superchips 3865? That is the right one for me isn't it?

2005 Dakota Quad SLT, 4.7L non HO engine.

I had ordered this one yesterday:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001W4SSVQ/ref=pe_385040_30332260_pe_301860_26203570_n_id http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001W4SSVQ/ref=pe_385040_30332260_pe_301860_26203570_n_id

but they canceled the order today. They said its not California legal. My own research had said it was.

Did a search for the 3865 and shows its discontinued, can't even find it on the Superchips website.

So what to do...

Thanks.

Superchips has a new tuner, basically an newer version of the 3865. Superchips 3841 is the California Edition, and SC 3842 is the regular newer one.

You can check the forum classifieds for a 3865, they go for aroud $200 and up used (sometimes cheaper). Just make sure the tuner shows 'Returned to Stock' on the screen, which means it's unlocked, or not locked to another vehicle. You can also check craigslist too.

Here's one in CA on CL for $180. Make sure it's unlocked though, Superchips charges $100 to unlock a programmer.

What T-stat are you referring to? The only aftermarket T-stat with an alternative temp I found was the JET unit...which is ~$40. If you are referring to the 5.2L/5.9L T-stat swap, have you heard of any ill effects?
