Default EGR code P0406

Hey guys,

I'm getting a check engine light recently and it's putting out code P0406 EGR Position Sensor Circuit High. Also accompanying this check engine light is a tick or nocking sound when I start the engine. The sound gets quitter after about 2-3 minutes of driving, then it's hardly noticeable.

Have any of you had this problem and do you think the noise is related to the EGR code?

The possible causes for this code are the following:
(K34) EGR POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (F856) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT
(K34) EGR POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE
(K34) EGR POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
(K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
EGR SOLENOID ASSEMBLY
PCM

You can contact your servicing dealer for further diagnostics.

Replacing the EGR valve will most likely address your issue.
The part is about $30, but it's a bitch to get to it.

The ticking should be something else, maybe nothing at all.

Ok thanks. Ya from what I read the egr is a pain to replace. But probably better than paying a shop $$$ todo it.

should take you no longer then 20 minutes to change out egr, just get a nice extension for your ratchet and go slow, and angled mirror on the wiper cowl will help you out seeing the 2 bolts that hold it in

Got it replaced. Took me about 45 mins. Guess I work slow lol. Cleared the code right up. As for the clicking noise, I think it is a exhaust leak at the manifolds.
