Default Re-gearing my 2005 Dakota "Help"!

I have a 4" lift 2'body lift and 33" tires, I dont expect a hot rod especially only with my V6 engine but my truck is sucking in low speeds and freeway speeds. I need referrals to 4.10 Gearing kits from brands and internet sites that you guys trust.

Well first off, lets talk about your lift. No one makes a 2" body, there is only a 3" body available from Performance Accessories. Second, no one makes a 4" production lift..unless you purchased the JMR 4" option.

Having that been said, I have the 3.7L and have been running 33s for 3 years with factory 3.55:1 gears at elevation. Don't get me wrong, I want 4.56s in the worst way, but they are not "required" to run 33s. Look at Randy's Ring and Pinion for gear stuff. You most likely have the 8.25" rear end, so you will run into issues finding gear sets on that site for the rear. Just use another vehicle that has a 8.25" Chrysler rear end with 29 spline shafts, and you will be fine. Consider using this opportunity for a traction aid in the back. By implication, a locker. Ox has a manual locker for the 8.25" with 29 spline axles. ARB makes a selectable air locker. A detroit locker would be the the best auto-locker. If you have an open carrier, then the most eco solution is an aussie locker, spartan locker.

I've bought at least a dozen gear sets from Randy's, as well as a bunch of lockers, axle shafts, etc., and I've always been happy with the products and the service.

With the V6, I would seriously consider 4.56s instead of 4.10s. Unless you do almost all of your driving on flat freeways, I think it would be a much better all-around ratio.

have a 01 dak V6 42 trans. the 4.55 gear have low power. no MPG . put a 4.10 in power is much better. and it tricked the computer in to thinking it was doing 45 MPH at 30 MPH. putting it into O.D. at 30. MPG go from 8-9 to 11-12 MPG. but i only drive in town. using 4.10 at highway speeds is not a good idea.

I completely disagree with your recommendation for the OP. So...your statement is based on assumptions, rather than purpose of application. 4.56 gears would be great on the highway...with 35 or 37s. speaking of which, you have a different engine. The 3.7L is a completely different animal than the 3.9L. Look at the torque and horsepower curves between the two. I get 16 mpg in town with 33s, and around 19 mpg on the highway. If I ran 4:10s, I would see over 20 mpg on the highway simply from not loading so hard at highway speeds and getting back to a similar final drive when I was on 30" tires.

I ran 4.56 gears in my Jeep TJ with 33" tires, 6-cylinder, and a 5-speed for years. And I drove it on the highway every day. It had no trouble cruising at 80MPH. I actually thought it was a perfect ratio.

My truck has 4.10 gears that worked great with 33" tires (because it's a V-8), but they're a little too tall with the current 35s, IMO.

Yeah my 2005 v6 3.7 slt dakota is much different than the 01 dakota model. i used to own that same year. your right I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago the guy told me incorrectly, I have 3" body & 3" lift. I do allot of freeway driving and i struggle to stay above 65 without going into 4th and 5th. i want a gear ratio that will be able to help put less tress on my brand new tranny, travel on highways comfortably and that I can still go out wheeling in southern utah. so you recomend 4.10 from randy's?

Unless you're going to spend all your time on the interstate, I would still recommend 4.56 gears with 33" tires. Like I said, the 4.10s worked well with 33s and a V8, but I think you would still be a little undergeared with the 3.7 V6. It wouldn't be terrible, though.
