Just trying to figure out is the 42rle the only auto trans used in the 3rd gens, i recently blew mind and vs spending the 2100 bucks to get it rebuilt, im trying to pull one from the junk yard, since i will be leaving the country in a few months not worth the 2100 bucks to me. any help would be awesome, thanks for looking and any help provided!!

a lot of times the tranny doesn't blow, unless there is a huge hole in it and fluid leaking everywhere, most likely its just the solenoid. is the check engine light on? if so pull the code,

The 42RLE trans was paired with the 3.7 engine, and the 545RFE trans was paired with the 4.7 engines.

You should include that when asking certain questions, or put that info in your signature.

But yeah, for sure get another opinion first.

If the transmission doesn't hold in park, then the problem maybe the park pawl. There was a recall for that problem, If that's what is happening. As far as the forward gears. I would need to know the codes and is the problem in all forward gears. If you lost all forward and reverse gears, you may have lost the rear planetary gear set or a broken hub/with shaft.

so if i have lost all forward and reverse gears, you may have lost the rear planetary gear set or a broken hub/with shaft. would it be easier to swap out the transmission, or cheaper in a sense.
