2007 Dakota Does Not Crank
I know that my battery is starting to go. Starts up good when it's warmer then -25 C, but colder then that like what i've been getting, i need to make sure i plug in the block heater. If the engine is warmed by the block heater, no issues starting. It is still the original battery from the manufactured date of August 2010 in my truck.
All started last year when it dropped to -50 C overnight over new years. Since that day, I've had to plug it in sooner and sooner. Up to that point, my truck was never plugged in for me and i've never had issues with starting. Earlier this winter, my plug in temp was -35 C, but it's gotten worse as I've needed a boost or to plug it in warmer then that. Oh the joys of living in Northeastern Ontario. -45 in winter, +40 in summer, and this is without windchill or humidex.

Mine (2008) seems to be OK still with the original battery. I don't get quite as cold here in Ottawa, however. I have a bit of an advantage, since my wife bought a nice-looking outdoor thermometer from an American retailer, and the lowest temp it shows is -25 C (-13 F), so I never feel as cold . . . . .
There is a little complaining when I push the remote start button, but it always goes - the beauty of multi-port fuel injection!
Yeah, i wrote my temps in Celsius only because i posted before i got the chance to add the Fahrenheit temperatures. i normally do the conversion before i post. And until your post, i didn't realize that i forgot to add the Fahrenheit.
And technically Gator, both of us are bellow the 49th parallel, but yeah, i get what you mean.

Thanks for everyone's input to my post.
I did have the starter changed out and it starts like a champ now. It has been around -20C the last two mornings and the new starter sounds like it cranks the motor much faster than the old one, even in this cold weather.
I know from crawling under the truck that the starter looked pretty corroded much like the pictures that dakotaff posted. I'm just glad that the initial no crank/no start happened in my driveway so I had a chance to trouble shoot at home.

Glad it's all squared away, and thanks for posting the resolution to your problem!
