Figure it this way. $2,000 repairs @$500 per month for 4 months, or new truck at $500+ per month for 60 months.

Sounds like the Ram would make more sense for you..... if you can afford it as others have pointed out. A vehicle has always been a losing investment for me, but it is nice to have a new toy every now and then.

All of these opinions are great. For now I think I'm going to fix the truck and hang on to it. Payments do suck, and I already have a different toy that I want to focus on. A truck is a tool and mine is already paid off. With some wheels and tires and a Led light bar it would look sick. I'll save up for a gas friendly car one of these days instead.

Cough... *GET A MOTORCYCLE!!!* ...cough

Seriously, you live in Vegas... If I lived in Vegas I'd have a bike instead of a high MPG car ANY DAY, and the truck would be for the days I couldn't ride.

Actually... That's what I do now here in NY!

You know I've been down that path. I used to have a 03 r6. And I loved it! I already have a covertible mustang that's more of a toy. A supercharged V8 doesn't do any better for milage though. I'm in a suit everyday for work so a bike isn't to practical for me. Besides the way people drive out here is scary. Doors and airbags save lives.

I've been down that path also. I had a bike as my daily driver for a year in my 20's. Insurance was dirt cheap, fuel economy was great. After adding up speeding tickets and rear tire replacements, I think I would have been much better off financially with a car.

I'll be 28 this year and ride a 30 year old Goldwing. It's comfortable, has storage space, was cheap to buy, cheap to insure, can ride in the rain and stay reasonably dry, and is (surprisingly) stupid fast when you give it the beans. To top it off I can get 45mpg with it, and the cops don't look twice at me! Win, win, win, win, win! LOL!

Still doesn't help when you wear a suit to work!

I am in the same boat. I have had my '06 4X4 SLT Dakota for a little more than 5 years. I would like to think I have spoiled it with all the little extras I have put into it (intake, throttle body spacer, headers, exhaust, tuner, leveling kit, tires, in-dash DVD and steering column gauges). In the past five years I have had several non maintenance issues that have convinced me to purchase another vehicle. I have made the decision to trade it in once I get it back from the mechanic. I don't mind the extra $300+ a month as long as I have something reliable and more fuel efficient .

we must be cruising on the same lake. I have done a lot as well and looking at new trucks with new technology is tempting. I bought my truck brand new at the end of 06 and got a killer deal because the local dodge dealer was closing. sticker was 30K, was on sale for 26.9K negotiated down to 24.5K out the door!. Ive had this truck for going on 8 years now? give or take. Ive watched a 2014 dealer lifted Ram on 33's or 35's cant remember. The dealer uses 4 wheel parts and everything is under warranty. The options list is decent but I'm concerned that I might be down grading on a few things. for example just because the truck has a tow hitch on the back doesn't mean it has a TOW package. Although it had a trailer brake controller on the dash, I couldn't find any wording that said HEAVY DUTY on the options list. The ram has everything my truck has and then some in other categories. Im curious to maybe drive it...im interested in the new 8 speed tranny with the Hemi combo. I average 15.5-16mpg with my 4.7L HO. it would be nice to get the same mpg with a quad cab ram.
