saw this on the news tonight...dakota and durango both under investigation for steering column problems. I know my truck has exhibited something like this and the dealer has done NOTHING to recognize or fix it. Hopefully now they will HAVE to fix it.

In the Forbe's link, does the government need to get involved? I think DC know's its reputation could be on the line if the problem isn't fixed fast. Sort of like the ball-joint problem with the Durango as they show in the second link. That had to have left a sour taste in DC's mouth in sales. DC can take care of the problem themselves if they realize that there is a strong dissatisfaction going around...

FYI the investigation is PE 05-056. Only '04-'05 Durangos and '05 Dakotas are covered as far as I can tell.
I don't trust the second article. I take issue with this disingenuous sentence: NHTSA said there have been no reports of crashes or injuries but ConsumerAffairs.com has received several reports of accidents caused by steering problems. They go on to talk about various steering related problems on the previous model, without ever proving that those accidents which were caused by steering problems are actually on vehicles which are part of the investigation. Never mind that several of the problems they talk about are already under their own recalls.
