05 4.7l 4x4; Need to repair the steel brake fluid line section at my rear left drum, sprung a leak in the line not at the connection. Am told the line is either button ended or flared and it appears to be 3/16. Also are the connections anything special or just a regular thread and hex head. Thanks.

And if I juts snip the line for now and crimp both ends should I be good or will this cause unnecessary wear and tear to the drum not having fluids running to it.

 

If you snip and crimp that line, the brake will simply not do anything, it couldn't cause wear and tear on that brake at all.

The cylinder uses a metric thread, which I believe would also mean the line is bubble flare and not a double flare.

Most auto parts stores have brake line in straight lengths with fittings on them and flared already. Buy a length that will reach, carefully bend it to fit, top off the brake fluid and bleed it out. Just make sure it's the metric fittings with bubble flare, NOT the standard fitting with a double flare, it's completely different!

 

Dont just crimp it off. That is dangerous. The vehicle needs all 4 brakes working.

 

Agreed, I wouldn't do that unless I was stranded about a mile from home and just wanted to limp it there about 30 miles an hour.

 

I walked into autozone with all my blissful ignorance like "just give me some of that brake line please!" when she broke the bad news there were multiple styles. (-_-) Thanks for the help!
