Default To chip or not to chip ?

Guys I am new here and have done several searches on this subject, I am considering chipping my 05 slt 4.7 however ! I had a jeep renegade I chipped and after searching forever about the good or the bad I installed it. I immediately started getting post that it would blow my engine , blow my trans ect, I ask all those on the forum why they didn't say that when I ask before bought ? Nothing ,, crickets !! Long story short a year after I sold it it blew and the guy that bought it said jeep (of course) blamed the chip. so let here the facts help me make a good decision.

Get a Superchips 3865 programmer, or newer model 3841/3842

Those advertised $69 chips that plug into your obdii port are pure garbage.

You need a tuner. Skip the chip. Waste of money as stated. Search this section for superchips info. There is one for sale cheap right now in the classified section.

if you plan on mods then get the sct tuner, but if you just want intake and exhaust get the superchips, I am a true testament with these motors that they are strong after pushing nitrous thru it since 2006, and at 180000 miles it still wants to rip ***, people have their doubts but I literally beat my truck everyday, and it begs for more

So sounds like I need to buy a tuner, so far I have installed dual catback exhaust, throttle body spacer and short air intake. Not really looking to be a speed race but I guess I never have really grown up in that regard or at least according to my wife ! So far I have her convienced this is all for better gas milage and improved towing of my bass boat, this will just be our lil secret ok ? Lol !

Please don't say you spent money on a TB spacer without doing some research. Those are useless on a port injected engine. A complete waste of money. And yes, a tuner will wake your truck up beyond belief.

Sorry Jkeaton guilty as charged except for the for research part, opinions vary on these and always have. I didn't buy it for performance per say just trying to eek out any gas mileage I can.
