Question What's the best performance chip for my 05 dakota?

I have a 2005 dakota 3.7 L V6 with a K&N cold air intake and a custom super 40 series flomaster exhaust. Wondering what performance module/chip to install to give me the most bang for the buck. I'm looking for more power.

With your simple mod list, just go with Superchips 3865

Edit fail: you have a 3.7 sry.. no Superchips, not chips available.

I pulled mine out. Stupidest thing I have done to my truck. Unless I see dyno results all I see with that is gas gauge going to E faster with no results.

Nothing is really available for the V6 in terms of chips. I wouldnt waste my money on Jet chips or anything claiming to give you extra HP for $39 .... or whatever those scam artists are doing nowadays.

IMO, I would look at doing an E-fan. Its an extra 10 HP right there, which is over half of what a Superchips will do to the 4.7l.

What about a Jet Performance 90401 or 90401S the "S" is the second stage more suited to trucks that have mild performance adders already: throttle body spacers, intake, freeflowing exhaust. The "S" also requires 91 octance gas and a 180 degree stat.

An E-Fan is a great choice too the power returns are nice and the benefit of having a fan thats only on when needed is less drag on the motor providing better fuel efficiency.

There are mixed reviews on them. From what I have read (take it with a grain of salt), they add power when they are first added to the PCM, but after a while the PCM learns the chip and renders it basically useless. Some have been happy with their chips though, so to each there own. Programmers are preferred because they change the actual values in the PCM, the chips just alter them therefore they can be learned by the PCM. Unfortunatly, no one has ever seen enough profit in developing a programmer for the 3.7l.

Next on the agenda; dont do a throttle body spacer. A quick google search will show you they are nothing more than a paper weight when it comes to our engines. Unless, you are using it for nitrous or methanol injection.

You can always look at a bigger throttle body from the fastman. Mine has given me a fair share of idle problems, but Im on the verge of getting it to work. Its worth 10-12 RWHP on the 4.7l. Sorry, I dont know the gains for the 3.7l, but it definetly adds power through the whole RPM range.

And for the T-stats, another google search will show you mixed reviews. (Sorry, I like google ) On one, there was a WRX or something similar and it actually lost 10WHP or so with the cooler stat. But again, to each their own.

I wonder if the 3.7L can be tuned with SCT through a tuner? My 05 4.7L Dakota isn't listed on SCT's site for tuners but I have the 9550 with custom hemifever tuning.

Hemifever is tuning an 08 4.7L with a Diablo even though the Diablo site doesn't show the 08 dakota as one of its supported vehicles.

It would be an email worth sending. I cant remember if anyone has checked before. I wouldnt waste time sending any emails to Superchips asking for a tuner; they arent interested.
