Post 2005 3.7 Dakota slt 2wd

Hey everyone, I've run into an issue I can't seem to figure out. Monday truck was running great but Tuesday morning I jump in to head to work and it starts up fine runs for a few seconds rpm raise to about 1.5k and then truck shuts off. I try to crank again and engine turns over but no start. Leave the truck at home and ride with my wife to work and figure I'll look at it that night.

Get home and try to start it up, doesn't even turn over no noise or anything, I did notice the abs light, ac light and the radio light turn off when turning the key but all other lights are fine, as in they don't dim, so I am thinking bad connection somewhere. I checked the battery, 12.49 volts on 3yr old battery so I replace terminals, clean other grounds but still a no go. Pull starter off and get it checked, all good. I have connected my obd II scanner and it says it can't link. Also noticed that the transmission position lights are not illuminated on the dash. I'm lost and at this point I am thinking ignition is bad or the computer is dead, any way to check either? I am hoping it is a lot easier than those and someone has seen this before. What do you think?

Weird things happen to these trucks electronically when the battery is on its way out...Even including showing sufficient voltage.

If it was me, I would try a new battery before you do anything else.

try jumping it and see what happens, if truck stays running while connected to other vehicle for a few, then stalls while it is unhooked, battery is going out, if you have a second key try using that key, a lot of times the ignition looses its connection with the programmable key and just craps out, if you have only 1 key, then you may wind up purchasing a new one at a pricey cost

I've tried jumping it and same result. I have a second key and tried that as well. I pulled the battery this morning and will have it tested today.I'm hoping it is something easy like a battery, but we will see.

Update on what is going on. Truck still isn't running, same thing, lights are on and don't dim everything appears to work as normal but the engine turn over and there are no codes nor can my scanner link to the PCM. I had the battery checked, it's good. So I figured maybe the ignition switch, swapped it same thing happens. Now I am leaning toward the PCM being bad. I checked the fuel rail, no pressure. I pulled the PCM and checked to see if it had power and it does at the clip. I really hate throwing money and parts at it, so I may have it towed to the stealership to diagnose the issue for sure before I drop a couple hundred dollars on a PCM.
I haven't heard of a PCM just randomly dying like this, although I am sure they do. I feel like something else may have failed and caused the PCM to die. I want to check the systems that are connected to see if they shorted and caused the PCM to die, I'm just not sure what systems are tied to it. Guessing fuel system, spark plugs, and possibly transmission since the lights for it aren't on either. I'm not sure what else but if anyone knows let me know because I want to check before I put a new PCM in. Tomorrow I will check to see if the PCM has power when the key turns to start, after that either buy a PCM and see what happens or tow to the dealership. What would you do?

No fuel pressure, no link with scanner. Make sure you check for voltage at the fuses under the hood, maybe under the dash.

Last time I lost a PCM in a vehicle, my father's window wouldn't roll up, so he tarped the car. moisture built up inside the car and took it out. Sealed unit under the dash and all lol.

Same situation as you, I didn't know at the time what the problem was so I gambled and got lucky.

I'm still leaning towards pcm, had it towed Monday afternoon to the dealership. They called yesterday and said tech is having a time figuring it out. Checked all fuses and ground circuits then said the ecm and tcm aren't talking to each other. I just want to make sure nothing shorted the ecm/tcm before I replace and have it happen again. Luckily they are one unit so replacing one fixes the other as well. Should hear something back today. I'll update once I hear from them and then again when it's up and running as I hate seeing posts about a problem and no resolution.

Hopefully they'll get it right the first time.

And yeah, it's great to see the issue resolved with updates on the fix.

Alright, dealership called this morning and confirmed the pcm is dead, which is what I came up with as well. They said they checked everything else and it just appears to have died. Said this is happening more and more often now. Quote for repairs, 832 for aftermarket. 1000 for oem. Both include 2 year warranty. I can replace it myself for 250 plus the 216 diagnosis fee. Guess it's time to order a pcm.

My 05 does the same thing. I open the hood and hit the fuse box, shut the hood and it starts up every time. There is a loose wire in the box that I can't find.
