Please forgive me, but I almost traded my dakota
So, here is the deal. I saw the new 2016 Toyota Tacoma, thought that it looked pretty good. Went to check things out and it does have a lot of new Tech stuff in it. Considering some issues I have had with my 2005 Dakota Quad Cab SLT, 4.7L. I have the front passenger window is slow, sometimes rough idle(it will go down to 400rpm at a stop light and stutter) and random stalling(it has completely stalled 4 times since I bought it in Nov. 2004). Anyway, after taking all that into account and reading on here, I could not let my truck go. The Tacoma doesnīt even have power driver seat like my Dakota does, I couldnīt see paying 35,000 dollars for some new technology. So, does anyone have any tips or ideas on how I can upgrade the radio, (yes, the rare 1.5 DIN size) to something with nav and bluetooth and back-up camera. Also, has anyone else had the slow window issue and have you done anything about it? Mine didnīt start until warranty was up, go figure. Thanks for any input. By the way, I only have 56,000 miles on this truck.
I'd like to have that backup camera also. I looked into the head unit swap, and it seemed like a big job. I'm kind of eyeing those mirror dash cam/ back up cam units. Very cheap, easy to mount. Just not sure if that little screen will do well as a back up cam.
That is the direction I was going. I only use the truck during the winter or when it rains, so I will make this a project this spring. Thanks for the advice.
I have seen a couple guys install a double din. I may take that challenge soon. If so, I will take pics along the way.
For your window problem I recommend that you buy a new window motor. My truck had the same issue and turns out it was a bad motor. The motor are know to collect water some how and go bad. It's an easy fix to do yourself. Just You tube it. New motor shoudnt cost more than $100.

The window doesn't really bother me that much. I have vent visors on it and I am usually by myself when I drive the truck, so the window pretty much stays open at the vent level. I was just curious if anyone else had the issue and have they fixed it or let it go as is. In fact, none of the issues bother me that much, and looking at a new truck made me realize how much I like my Dakota.
My front passenger window has always been a bit slow.
Not so bad as to make me start taking apart the door though.
I just went with a single din replacement stereo, I can reverse old school, by actually looking. I have 4 new Polk speakers for my truck to replace the Pioneers in there now, when I finally get around to it, I'll grease the window track ans see if it helps.
With 56K, and no payments, it's a wise call to keep the Dakota.

Dakotaff, I am with you on the window. I don't use it enough to dig into right now. I am looking for the backup camera due to my teenage daughter learning to drive. I do want her to learn to look the old school way, but a second set of eyes makes me feel better. Plus, I do hook up to boats often, just a convince rather than a need. I have some ideas now, and when I figure out which route I go, I will post pics of the completed project.
