Default p1776 ABOUT TO START MY OWN REVOLUTION

I Have a 2006 Dakota 4x4. tranny drops into 2nd gear and check engine light comes on. Limp home mode. Had shift solenoid replaced,STILL HAPPENS. Anyone have the same problem. Cost me $375 to have solenoid changed now the shop is wanting to put in rebuilt tranny for $3000. HUH?

Depending on the mileage, it might be rebuild time.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to bring it to another shop for another opinion, it can't be worse than option #1.

After it cools off works great until gets hot. 117,000 miles. No slippage. No burnt fluid. Going to pick up and take to another mechanic.

I would start with the service manual, which are all found in the sticky here by year. Open it and look for "DTC Index" in the group tab locator, and find P1776 under Transmission Diagnostics in the DTC list. You should see 2 page numbers listed for the same code...One is the diagnostic for the 42RLE (v6), and the other is for the 545RFE (v8).
