Default 2005 Dakota Window Water Leaks into Cab Through Speaker

Hi Everyone,

Brand new to this forum, I just had a rather specific question that I haven't been able to find any info on.

Anyway I bought a 2005 Dakota about 2 months ago, and am overall very happy with it. My only problem is that I have water leaking into the floor of the passenger side of the cab when it rains. I spent weeks pulling my hair out trying to find it, and finally I did. Basically what happens is water runs down the rail holding the side windows in place, down into the door, which would normally be okay as the water should drain out of the holes at the bottom of the door. The problem is I park on a sloped lawn, and so the angle is just high enough for the water to drip off the end and fall into the speaker housing below. It then runs through there and into the floor panel, soaking the carpet and giving me a big mess to clean up.

Just to check, I pulled the carpet on the drivers side, and found it was damp underneath too, though not as bad. I ran water over the window and found the same thing was occurring, at just the right angle water would slowly run down the rail and drip into the cab through the speaker housing.

To me this seems like a design flaw since it is happening on both sides, but I have not been able to find another case of this happening. Basically I am wondering if this is a common problem, or if anyone out there may have dealt with this before and might have a fix. I'd like to try and fix it myself if at all possible.

I hope I explained it clearly, I can provide pictures tomorrow if that makes it easier to conceptualize.

Drill holes in the door where the lowest point is when you park?

Maybe pull the interior door panels and see if you can clear whatever is blocking the drain.

I get what you're saying. Get a piece of J channel for the siding on a house and some Gorilla tape. Tape that channel to the bottom of the window frame like a rain gutter to direct the water to the drain hole.
