Old thread I see but I am here looking for any help on this situation before I dig into my friends truck to help him with this same problem. Its a 2006 Dakota 4.7, 2 wd extended cab. Truck looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor but it does have 160,000 miles on it. One day the truck went to limp mode, next day it was fine. Its happened to him several times now. The truck is throwing a bunch of codes but runs and drives fine most of the time.

Ive chatted with a few friends that work for dealerships and also some that own shops, they all say to steer away from the job because it will eat my lunch. I like a good challenge but this almost seems like a guessing game at this point. Ill check the connections and clean them with air, make sure the battery is charged and cables are clean and tight. Not sure where to turn if the problem persists.

Tech at local shop said he found a frayed wire and a broken wire- not entirely sure that's correct as I found he used wire ties to secure the 4 harness inputs to the pcm and that might have been the issue- loose clips. Meanwhile it the three only 1 code p0988- that caused me to replace the trans pressure sensor, and now have P0934 which points back to more wire harness issue from that sensor to tcm. Still working on that do good luck to us both but at least the litany of codes/communication errors is gone
