Tow Capacity - 7,200 lbs *when properly equipped
#11
So, after using a "trailer towing group" keyword search on auto trader and dropping some of the resulting VINs into the link you guys provided me, I can confirm two things -
1. When a truck actually was equipped with the Trailer Towing Group and the Heavy Duty Service group, the build sheet lists it explicitly, along with 3.92 ratio, 750 amp battery, anti-spin diff, aux trans cooler, power steering cooler, class IV hitch, 7 pin harness, etc. That is to say, they list both the packages and the individual features that comprise them.
2. Easily 50% of the ads on auto trader that claim the truck is equipped with the Trailer Towing Group are not borne out by the build sheets.
Thanks everyone for your help. Found one that meets my needs. Only problem is I'm in CA and it's in MI

Is it just me or are the links to the dodge VIN decoders no longer working? Tried pasting my VIN in there and just got an error from the dodge website. On the Mopar site, it does list the Heavy Duty Service Group and Trailer Tow Group, but I can't find an official tow rating. I have a 2005 SLT QC 4x4 with the above options, and I'm looking to tow my track car, which is about 3200lbs + trailer, so probably near 5000lbs. I'll get a trailer brake controller for it (it has the blue plug, and I have the harness). I should be fine, I assume?

If you have 3.55 gears, max trailer weight is 4450, with 3.92 gears, max is 5750. (info from here.)
My conclusion is, if you have 3.55 gears, don't do it. If you have 3.92 gears, AND a trailer brake controller, and a trailer that has brakes to control..... I think you are still going to be very close, if not over... your max. To safely haul your race car, you really need a full size truck.

Look here for more accurate info.
The link below has accurate data and will show you the tow capacity variance between models. This chart is relatively consistent for 06 and 07 also. The 08-11 models have a single V8 and line up closest to the HO engine tow specs below.
