Cool P0463 code

Hello everyone, I'm trying to determine the issue behind this code. I know the meaning and have replaced the fuel pump and sensor combo. Cleared the DTC with scanner and the code reappeared. Fuel gauge is dead and the check engine light is on. The above heads up display is showing fuel level low even when the tank is topped off. I have a 2010 Dodge Dakota Little Big Horn with a V6. Anyone have suggestions?

mines doing the same thing. it is the sending unit. not the pump. I just use the over head display to track my mileage, sometimes the gauge works, others flat and cel lights. I have 216000 miles now.

Thumbs up P0463

Update as of today: still the same problem, but completed a instrument cluster test and the fuel gauge passed. So that one item eliminated.

Hi,I had this same problem a few months ago when I changed out a dead fuel pump.I replaced it with a cheap chinese pump module and the truck started and ran ok for about 45 min. and when I drove it 10ft the fuel gauge went from reading nearly full to zero, low fuel light came on and the check engine light came on.Hooked up my scan tool and pulled a P0463 which as previously mentioned in this thread is a bad sending unit/float arm.It means the ground circuit isn't working right on the float arm.

I removed the whole module as I still had the bed off and had it replaced under the warranty period but I didn't install it as I don't trust that brand anymore.I wanted to go with a oem pump module for quality but hated the notion of paying outrageous money($323-$462) for one if I didn't absolutely have to.I disassembled the original pump module and pulled out and studied the motor and, then went poking around to find the original supplier to Mopar and I bought a complete oem fuel module from TI Automotive/Walbro(100% made in USA and rebuildable) for 58% less than Mopar and immediately after installing it worked perfectly and the fuel gauge has been just fine since.

Hope this helps someone.
